Chanel now owns the oldest shirtmaker in France, Charvet. Pretty cool.

The deal was announced just days before the house is set to unveil its Haute Couture collection in Paris on July 7, bringing the nearly 200-year-old atelier into Chanel's growing portfolio under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy.

The relationship between the two houses has been growing for some time, too. Charvet crafted the bespoke shirts featured in Blazy's debut Spring/Summer 2026 collection for Chanel, marking the first public link-up between the brands.

Founded in 1838, the Parisian shirtmaker has long recognised for its world-class tailoring, creating custom shirting for everyone from royalty and politicians to business leaders. While traditionally associated with menswear, Charvet also shares a historical connection with Gabrielle Chanel, who was known to incorporate its shirts into her own wardrobe.

Speaking about the acquisition, Chanel said the move also reflects changing customer habits. While the fashion house remains predominantly focused on womenswear, it has seen growing interest from male clients. Meanwhile, Charvet, despite its menswear heritage, has attracted an increasing number of women looking for impeccably tailored shirting.

The purchase also arrives as Chanel continues to broaden its appeal to male audiences. In recent years, the house has welcomed names including Jacob Elordi, A$AP Rocky and G-Dragon as ambassadors. With Charvet now joining the Chanel family, speculation is already building that the brand could eventually expand into a dedicated menswear offering.

Guys, would you be open to stepping out in your own Chanel pieces?
