Last night, Burberry took over The Tate Modern for a show that hosted the biggest celebs at London Fashion Week this season, including Skepta, Lauryn Hill, Kim Cattrall, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Wintour, and a knight in shining armour… yes, fr.
Tapping his full roster of famous friends, it was immediately clear that Daniel Lee wanting all the biggest names to pull up to Burberry’s FW25 show meant something interesting was about to go down. He was gearing up for something bigger this season, and that much was delivered.

After Lee’s A-list guest list had filed into The Tate, which was decked out in draped curtains depicting images of the quintessential British countryside, we found our seats and prepared for what we hadn’t yet realised would be Burberry’s best show in years.
From the looks of the collection, Daniel Lee - who’s spent his tenure at the British heritage house so far flitting back-and-forth over the line between classic and modern - finally found his footing at Burberry’s FW25 show, landing neatly in between the two.

Describing his inspiration for the collection, Lee talked about the Londoner’s typical long weekend away to the country. “Think of them as weekend escapees. It’s that great Friday night exodus from London. Long rainy walks in the great outdoors to disconnect and day trips to grand stately homes,” he said.
Following this theme, Burberry’s FW25 was elevated, dressed up for a holiday and wanting to show off their best garms, but also practical, nodding to an awareness that outside the city it’s bloody freezing and you need to come equipped.

Knee-high leather boots that look fashionable in the city double as protection against muddy hikes on the Burberry model’s weekend trip, while huge checkered coats with matching scarves work to keep the cold out.
Obviously, it’s not all about practicality, though. No self-respecting Londoner pulls up to their stately mansion holiday without some drip to wear down the pub too — hence the velvet embossed suits and embroidered jackets, or paisley dresses and heels.
Overall, reactions to the Burberry’s FW25 show - from celebrities who attended, press who watched, and followers on socials alike - seem to be leaning towards the mentality that this collection went extremely hard - maybe Daniel Lee’s best yet - and we can see why that’s the narrative. If Lee can deliver more of this next season, Burberry’s about to make bank.
