The first look at Yohji Yamamoto x adidas’ upcoming sneaker is giving exactly the vibes we want to channel for the end of 2023: its radiating main character energy. In the brands’ latest collaboration, Yohji Yamamoto and adidas have just teased one of their most innovative and daring silhouettes to date.
It’s a sneaker with a fully hollowed out TPU plate, combined with the iconic Superstar model to create something new, progressive, and immediately iconic. Named the Y-3 GENDO, the sneaker was actually first unveiled on the runway at Yohji Yamamoto’s last show, which experimented with the concept of negative space and elevation.
However, the shoe isn’t just inspired by Yohji Yamamoto’s futuristic aesthetic, as two styles of the Y-3 GENDO also pull on adidas’ archive silhouettes. The Y-3 GENDO Superstar combines the midsole plate with a Superstar upper, and the Y-3 GENDO ProModel features a high-top upper and zip instead of lacing.
The most striking part of the Y-3 GENDO is undeniably the swooping sole and negative space between it and the rest of the shoe. Kind of reminiscent of an ice skate, the entire silhouette of the sneaker is like few we’ve seen before.
Don’t miss the Y-3 GENDO Superstar and the Y-3 GENDO ProModel’s pending release, dropping on October 21st in Yohji Yamamoto Boutiques, on Yohji Yamamoto and adidas’ websites, and in select retailers.
