Even when you take away fashion, we still wear skin. Ferrari Style’s FW26 runway collection, Rocco Iannone’s 10th collection for the brand, was inspired by something we’ve always worn and always will wear: skin. Consistent throughout our evolution, skin is a material that evokes intimate, sensual symbolism, but it’s also where we physically design our appearance.
Like the liveries Ferrari designs for its luxury class of sports cars, clothing is a kind of second skin that we use to define, protect, and vocalise our identities. That’s the basis for Ferrari’s 10th collection by creative director Rocco Iannone, which took the concept of skin and made it fashion.
The collection itself utilised a significantly skin tone-inspired colour palette, ranging from deep chocolate browns to a light peach, which were transformed via various textures, from leather to knitwear. From nude leather jackets that appeared softly muscular and loose tailored suits that clung to the silhouette, to nude heels made from opaque materials, there were constant references to the illusion of a second skin.
The visualisation of liveries was evident in every look, as Rocco Iannone created an identity - a second skin - that exuded confidence, ease, and a quiet notion of power. Tailoring was relaxed and comfortable, dresses were draped over the body, and leather looked soft and unrestricted.
Closing its show notes, Ferrari describes the intention behind Rocco Iannone’s imagined second skins as being a quest to define the Ferrari liveries, as clothing. As they explain, the “Ferrari ethos [is] to choose not one, but many skins to be in,” and that’s what this collection achieved. A myriad of second-skins you put on and become even more yourself.
