Fashion is in its wellness era right now

Fashion is no longer just responding to aesthetics, but to the routines that surround everyday life.

Luxury fashion has always been about aspiration. Today, however, that aspiration extends far beyond what we wear. Wellness, fitness and recovery have become central to modern lifestyles, and increasingly, they're influencing the way fashion brands think about design.

We're seeing it across the industry. Fashion is no longer just responding to aesthetics, but to the routines that surround everyday life. And few brands have embraced that shift as confidently as Balenciaga.

The house has tapped directly into this growing movement with the launch of TechWear, a new category introduced as part of its Fall 2026 "Body & Being" collection. Designed by Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli, the line reflects a growing appetite for clothing that performs as hard as the people wearing it.

And before you ask... it still feels so unapologetically Balenciaga. The brand's TechWear merges luxury with functionality, delivering technical garments designed for the realities of modern life, whether that's an early morning training session, the daily commute or something in between.

The collection spans men's and women's ready-to-wear, from compression-inspired base layers and bodysuits to technical tracksuits, leather outerwear and accessories. Moisture-wicking fabrics, antibacterial finishes, UV protection and ultrasonic construction techniques all sit beneath Balenciaga's new "Bodies" identity, a graphic motif symbolising continuous movement and boundless energy.

To bring the concept to life, Balenciaga transformed Paris' Place des Vosges into the “Boost” pop-up, a temporary wellness destination that extended the TechWear philosophy beyond clothing. The house built an immersive environment inspired by the modern gym, complete with branded workout equipment and functional nutrition-focused refreshments.

Visitors could pick up smoothies infused with ingredients such as marine collagen, cordyceps and ashwagandha, alongside cold-pressed juices and protein bars formulated around pre and post-workout routines. Every detail reinforced the same message: wellness has become an integral part of the luxury lifestyle.

Let's keep it real, though. Luxury fashion has flirted with health and wellness before, and we're seeing it woven into campaigns, collaborations and product launches from a growing number of brands. Consumers are investing more in movement, recovery and nutrition than ever before, and fashion is beginning to reflect those changing priorities.

Balenciaga's latest project feels like one of the clearest examples of that evolution. TechWear acknowledges that performance, comfort and technical innovation are no longer niche considerations reserved for sportswear. They're becoming defining characteristics of contemporary luxury.

With additional “Boost” pop-ups and partnerships with Barry's fitness studios supporting the global rollout, Balenciaga is embracing a broader lifestyle centred around movement and wellbeing, demonstrating that luxury today is as much about how you live as it is about how you dress.

Whether this signals the next chapter of luxury fashion or simply reflects changing consumer habits, one thing is clear: wellness is becoming part of fashion’s identity.
