Unhinged, unpredictable, and saying weird, off-the-cuff sh*t - that’s how we want our celebrities in 2025.
When Alex Consani came onto the scene a couple years ago, people raised their eyebrows at her out-of-pocket TikTok posts, claiming that modelling agencies would be turned off by her “unprofessional” approach to social media immediately. But that’s not what happened - the internet fell in love with Alex’s realness, and now, plenty of modelling agencies actually hold her up as an example of how to post online if you need to build a following.

When you’re a person in the public eye - whether that’s a singer, actor, model, or influencer - you have a responsibility to market yourself in almost the same way that a brand does. And nowadays, even brands are finally accepting that the polished approach to marketing that worked in the past doesn’t get the same results on socials. We want real, raw, messy, weird content that feels relatable and speaks our language.
That’s why Alex Consani responding to a question about what she ate for breakfast backstage at Victoria Secret with “d*ck” isn’t cause for the end of her career like it might’ve been back in the day. Celebrities used to be press trained to the teeth, hesitant to say anything even slightly abnormal or controversial, but now, that same press training is teaching them to “be themselves.”

In promotion for his latest movie, “A Complete Unknown”, Timothée Chalamet has also been giving us some unhinged viral moments, like the strange yet hilarious interview he did with Nardwuar or his link up with Brittany Broski. It’s clear that Timothée Chalamet has always been like this - see his high school performance as Lil Timmy Tim or his interview a year ago with Keegan-Michael Key - but his management must finally be telling him to stop holding back.
There are other celebrities that it doesn’t come as easy for, though. As one of the biggest music artists in the world, Ariana Grande hasn’t let loose on camera in a real way since she bit into that donut in 2015. After the viral incident that had people calling for her cancellation, she clearly went through some rigorous PR training that almost remodelled her into a new person.

While doing press for Wicked, it seems that Ariana Grande’s management realised the vibes she was giving weren’t helping her press, especially after the viral clip of her clasping Cynthia Erivo’s finger had everyone spiraling about their odd behaviour. Since then, she’s done multiple interviews where she’s been really relaxed, open, and honest about Wicked and the press tour, even talking unprompted about her gyno on one talk show (random, but go off).
This approach to marketing yourself as an artist isn’t new, but it seems to only now be getting the reception that it should. Ten years ago, the likes of Lady Gaga, Eric André, and Tyler, the Creator were famous for acting unhinged in interviews, but often people’s perceptions of their weird behaviour were mixed. The general public wasn’t ready for that yet.
In 2025, Timothée Chalamet saying his body type is “empowering the anemic” is hilarious, Renée Rap interrupting an interview to call out some guy she hates feels real, and Alex Consani screaming at the door of her trailer is a cultural moment. And we’re here for it.
