Fashion’s game of CD musical chairs wasn’t left behind in 2024 because Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler announced that they are stepping down as creative directors.
Having founded the brand in 2002 after the pair met at Parsons School of Design, Proenza Schouler has gone to become a staple in New York Fashion Week for its effortlessly cool take on womenswear. They aren’t short of accolades either, having won CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year on three separate occasions as well as the Accessory Designer of the Year award.
This news comes amidst rumours that Jonathan Anderson would take over Maria Grazia Chiuri’s role at Dior womenswear, leaving a vacant space at Loewe which people have been speculating would be filled by the Proenza Schouler duo. Although nothing is confirmed, there have been rumoured talks about them joining the Spanish label since October of last year.
It’s clear that, nowadays, anyone can go anywhere at any given time so we’ll see if there’ll be another major rejig in the creative director space.
