Bottega Veneta and “it bags” go hand in hand, and Matthieu Blazy is back with his latest design: Winter 2023’s Hop.
The new silhouette is the latest in a slew of signature Bottega Veneta handbags. For example, it joins notable styles like the Andiamo, Jodie, Sardine, Kalimero Bucket, Cabat, and of course, the iconic Cassette that was introduced by the house’s former creative director, Daniel Lee.

Blazy has brought a slick and polished aesthetic to Bottega Veneta (more so than ever before). It has resulted in items like the Hop. Here, Blazy draws inspiration from the timeless hobo bag of 2002, realised in 3D Intreccio woven leather in hues of “Fondant” brown, “Camomile” yellow, and white. Elsewhere, a smaller version of the bag also appears in “Oyster,” which is lilac to the eye and destined for a front row fashion week moment, clutched in the hands of an influencer or celebrity.
Per the brand, “each Hop is crafted over the course of two days making each bag a one of a kind.” This is the kind of technicality we expect from Blazy’s tenure at the house, which in a smattering of collections has delivered everything from trompe-l’œil printed leather T-shirts and jeans, a range of colours beyond the colloquially-know Bottega Green, and some of the brand’s most elaborate pieces to date.

Of course, the Bottega Veneta Hop comes as part of its recently-released Winter 2023 collection, which was spotlighted earlier this week in its own campaign. Here, we find equal amounts of high craftsmanship. Menswear developed from wool and cashmere pyjama dresses to fish scale wool jumpers and padded-to-perfection printed leather chevron coats. Typical of the house, womenswear was sophisticated, formal, and doused in understated sensuality.
As expected, the Hop is the perfect companion to any Bottega Veneta look. Check out the bag in the campaign above, and shop the range online now.
