Bottega Veneta has announced that the Chinese actress Shu Qi is its newest ambassador, and in doing so, it has also unveiled something equally momentous: Matthieu Blazy’s new Bottega Veneta Gemelli bag.
The Bottega Veneta Gemelli was first spotted during the Winter 23 runway, notably on Look 27 in black with gold-toned metal knot hardware. Here, the model held the bag by the smaller of the two half-moon zipped compartments, showcasing the Gemelli’s handcrafted Intrecciato leather body.
Look 43 showed the Gemelli in “Fondant,” and provided an even better look at this belter of a bag. The padded leather cords that help connect the two compartments were on full display, as were the zippers that match the rest of the style. This versatile bag was later seen in Look 52, tucked under the arm of a model wearing Bottega Veneta’s Ostrich-Effect Leather Double Shirt Dress (paired with “Burnt Orange” ostrich-patterned Canalazzo Over-The-Knee Boots). The white version seen there was larger, and went on to prove the bag’s form and function.
And that is often what makes Bottega Veneta bags so coveted. Form is never compromised by function, and vice versa. The Gemelli is the perfect embodiment of this sentiment. It comes in multiple sizes, and is found in the aforementioned colours, as well as “Travertine,” “Emerald Green,” “Glacier/Barolo,” “Agate Grey/Glacier” and more.
The bag has already been spotted on Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman, and of course, now Shu Qi. Here’s what she had to say about her appointment: “Bottega Veneta inherits the classic spirit of Italian craftsmanship, invigorated with innovative creativity and a truly global outlook. There’s a cinematic quality to the design, with a beautiful sense of texture, detail, and movement. It’s a pleasure to represent such a rich heritage and distinct creative vision.”
