Who else was sat in Gladiator II thinking: what’s Brad doing in the background? Bc the amount of gym bros with skin fades in that movie was kind of crazy. From bros with f*ck boy trims being used as extras to LA models with botox and perfect features as the lead, period dramas are really suffering from iPhone face.

ICYMI, “iPhone face” is when a person’s features are so modern that you just know they must’ve seen an iPhone before, whether it's because of their face, hair, teeth, or general aura. Most people would say cosmetic surgery, veneers, or ultra-modern makeup/hair styles are key to having iPhone face, but it can also just be someone’s vibe.
Back in the day, there might’ve been the odd actor with too much makeup on, but most of them managed to fit the time period quite easily. But today, with so much access to cosmetic surgeries, things like botox and lip filler are making it kind of hard to fit the vibe of an 18th Century peasant.

As cosmetic procedures for flawless skin and naturally unattainable features get more common – especially for people with money, like actors – iPhone face will no doubt become a bigger issue. Bc when everyone in Hollywood has the same teeth and nose, who will we cast in period movies? Maybe they’ll have to start wearing prosthetics.
