Tyler, the Creator drops new album “Don’t Tap the Glass”

Only a few days since announcing the drop of his new album, Tyler, the Creator released Don't Tap the Glass early this morning.

The rapper’s new 28-minute album includes 10 tracks – our highlights so far are “Sucka Free”, “Mommanem”, “Sugar on My Tongue” and “Don’t Tap the Glass / Tweakin’”.

Tyler announced his ninth album on Friday with the launch of new pieces on golfwang.com. On July 19th, a new website also launched (donttaptheglass.com) promoting the album and selling new merch. Tyler also teased it during his Chromakopia tour in NYC where he featured installations of the new album cover at the venue, and yelled out the album title while on stage. He was also hinting a drop on his social media though fans didn’t know what that would be. He also shared his album cover an hour ago with the caption: “MADE FOR BODY MOVEMENT”.

Don’t Tap the Glass follows last year’s Chromakopia album, which hit 85 million streams on its opening day. But, unlike Chromakopia, which had a wider push in world-building and creating anticipation for the album, Don’t Tap the Glass was more chill – and honestly surprising, especially as it came so so soon Chromakopia. Tyler is very much blessing us with two albums in one year.

Again, unlike Chromakopia, where Tyler introduced a brand new alter ego and brought Don’t Tap the Glass feels more like old Tyler, bringing in a more electric sound and different textures, weaving old-school ‘90s hip-hop beats, RnB and synth elements. Vibe-wise it’s reminiscent of Igor, in terms of beats and lyrics. From a first listen, it’s an album that makes you want to dance and move your body. Tyler himself just posted on IG, explaining how he was grateful that his listening party was a safe space for people to move, dance, feel free, and let that energy out.

You can stream the album now on Spotify and Apple Music.
