Grand Central Station, collegiate codes, and a red-and-blue colour palette – what gets more American than that? Our best bet would be sprinkling some Tommy Hilfiger in the mix.
Last night, it wasn’t just a sprinkle we experienced, as Tommy Hilfiger returned to the runway – or rather the Grand Central Station Station Oyster Bar – during New York Fashion week for a celebration that felt so innate to the big city. While it wasn’t a culinary experience per se, the show left our eyes salivating for more with an offering that felt classically American, embracing the preppy Tommy twist we’ve come to know.
Titled “Welcome to a ‘New York Moment,’” the collection was just that; a New York moment. As if frozen in time, guests – which included Central Cee and Jacob Rott – took their seats in the underground not-so secret bar, and admired the 59-look Americana-inspired collection. In case you missed it, here are some key pieces from the collection.
Just under 20 looks from the collection featured a scarf, so if you haven’t gotten yourself a big boy knitted scarf, there’s your sign. The accessory came in all colours and shapes – while some were skinny, others were made large; some came in one tone, others were multi-coloured. There was a choice for everybody, but our favourite pick has to be the large, American red scarf seen on British Fashion Award Model of the Year, Paloma Elsesser. Chunky and falling below-the-knee, this Tommy Hilfiger scarf gave attitude without even trying.
When you’ve been in the game as long as Tommy Hilfiger, designing timeless pieces is nothing new. And for the label’s celebration of New York, we saw flowing muted overcoats that meant business. This bad boy went large on the lapels, which gently lapped against its wearer’s chest. Held at the waist with a chunky buckled belt, and accented with hazelnut buttons, this was a definite yes from us!
Varsity jackets? Very much so
Nothing says America like a varsity jacket, this absolute belter makes supporting team Tommy a breeze. Billowing brown sleeves are crafted from a supple brown leather, effortlessly contrasting with a black body, housing some all-important “H” branding. At the waist, athletic-style piping nods to the sporting legacy of the style. It’s classic, it’s cool, it’s Tommy Hilfiger. You know you want one.
No cappin’ with Tommy Hilfiger
The Tommy Hilfiger brand has become a household name, and for good reason. From its 90s presence in the world of hip-hop to its Formula 1 stint to dressing some of the most recognised all-American talent like Gigi Hadid, Tommy Hilfiger continues to mark its cultural expansion, thanks to this collection. A testament to the brand’s wide reach and global impact can be seen in something as simple as this cap, thanks to the instantly recognizable dual-tone logo – something anyone can rep anywhere.
Big pillowy puffers
Any native to the Big Apple knows how spine-chilling the winter gets – and so will the Northern half of America. From Pittsburgh to Chi-town, a big puffer is a must if you intend to step foot outside. Tommy Hilfiger hears you and is here to deliver, with this greyish brown-coloured puffer with houndstooth red detailing. The oversized piece is a perfect fit for layered fits, allowing big sweaters to breathe underneath it, while also making a statement on its own – that statement being “I’m warmer than all of you, and doing it with style.”
