A leaked email from Nike to a sneaker store has revealed that the sportswear giant is cancelling the next three seasons’ worth of deliveries to retailers. You read that right – Holiday 21, Spring 22 and Summer 22 orders will now no longer be shipped out to retailers in a bid to address the ongoing supply chain issues lingering from the pandemic.
Particularly affecting the US, supply chain issues began with workplace shutdowns and the economic downturn caused by the pandemic. The lack of workers caused manufacturing and shipping delays, which, in turn, led to panic buying. Everything from Christmas trees to Turkey are said to be in short supply, and now you can add the new kicks you had on your Christmas lists.
This is rough. Email sent from Nike to a sneaker store saying that all of its upcoming orders will be canceled due to supply chain issues. That’s all of Holiday ‘21, Spring ‘22, and Summer ‘22 canceled. pic.twitter.com/9TRGOgDf6f

Though many industries have been hit by supply chain woes, this leaked email doesn’t mean all, or even most, of Nike’s wholesale partners will be affected at the same level. However, cancelling 3 seasons’ worth of orders (and, most probably, more) has understandably caused unease in the community.
Nike expressed in the email that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on the supply chain are to blame for the canceled orders, but did not offer any consolation. “We understand that this decision is difficult information to hear,” the email reads. “Our goal is to resume supply as soon as possible and we are committed to communicating transparent and timely updates about future seasons.”
However, just when those future communications will materialise is more ambiguous.
