Supreme and MM6 Maison Margiela is the surprise collaboration we needed

Supreme has just announced its latest collaboration with MM6 Maison Margiela as part of its Spring/Summer 2024 offering. Every once in a while, the ready-to-wear stars align, and a major streetwear label shakes hands with high fashion, fusing conceptualism and commerciality in new and exciting ways. Today, we got exactly that.

The Supreme x MM6 Maison Margiela capsule collection comprises a patchwork-esque faux fur coat, Varsity Jacket, Work Jacket, Washed Cotton Suit and Vest, Shirt, two short-sleeved T-shirts, hoodies, painter trousers, a Camp Cap, Hanes Tanks, and Crew socks. As you’d expect from a Supreme collaboration, the accessories, including a Kryptonite Chain, Disc Lock, and a skateboard deck, aren’t lacking either.

Across the collection, everyday items such as Hanes underwear, hoodies and jeans are subtly treated and updated in line with MM6 Maison Margiela’s elevated and convention-twisting approach. A worn box logo T-shirt is photographed and applied to a crisp white base layer, and jeans are finished with a wax-like weathered effect, taking what we have come to expect from Supreme and reinterpreting it through an MM6 Maison Margiela lens.

The collaboration allows both brands to extend their creative approach to new mediums, such as Supreme to wigs and MM6 Maison Margiela to skateboard decks. The latter arrives with wheel bite marks and a worn-out graphic, reflecting Maison Margiela’s deconstructive avant-gardist approach, which extends into MM6’s output.

Campaign shots showcase pieces from the collection worn by the members of the Supreme team around Paris. Manuel Schenck and his Golden Retriever Otto are joined by Valentin Jutant and others as the capsule is captured in a series of studio and street shots by Andrea Sportorno. Here, we see the collection’s wearability juxtaposed with elevated attention to detail, where a rogue leopard print patch is applied to faux fur coats, and branding is applied to the cuff of a tailored jacket.

Rather than collaborating for collaborating sake, the collection feels rooted in the ethos of both brands and reflects Supreme’s wide-reaching design language, which speaks to skaters and fashion aficionados with the same resonance. Supreme has previously worked with Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton, Thom Browne, Rimowa, Comme des Garçons, and Stone Island, with its latest link-up only adding to its fashion feats.

The Supreme x MM6 Maison Margiela collection will be available from Thursday, March 28 at 11 a.m. EST/ 3 p.m. GMT UK/ 4 p.m. CET. It will be released in select Supreme stores and online via the Supreme and MM6 Maison Margiela websites.
