It was all up in the air at KidSuper’s SS25 show last night… no, literally. Walking out at the end of his Cirque du Soleil choreographed fashion show in Paris, Colm Dillane, KidSuper’s founder and creative director, told the crowd: “the show is called ‘It’s All Up In The Air,” because when someone asks me what I’m doing for my show, that’s what it is.”
Considering that’s how he felt, Dillane’s SS25 collection was far from “all up in the air” when we saw it. Worn by models styled by Wisdom Kaye, dressed as wooden puppets and marionettes with white strings stretching down from sculptures of giant hands above, KidSuper’s collection pulled on the dramatic motifs of the circus, seen in frilled collars, top hats, and patchwork tailoring.
Opening with a performance by Cirque du Soleil acrobats, the show immediately had us captivated, along with the likes of Jared Leto, TY DOLLA $IGN, and AJ Tracey sitting on the FROW, as we witnessed a sky-high display of models dangling from silk. Then, Alton Mason stepped onto KidSuper’s runway in a bold tailored suit, with his arms attached to strings pulled by the mechanical, moving hand above him.
Referencing the “String Theory” that KidSuper already touched on at FW24, the theme appeared in the form of literal strings at SS25, looking into the idea of interconnectedness, and asking us to question what controls the strings in our lives.
The show was littered with Brit Pop inspired baker boy hats and lace neckerchiefs, which blended seamlessly with Parisian style berets and corsets, all styled by Wisdom Kaye. As always, KidSuper’s collection broke character every so often though, with some more modern styles seen in the form of leather jackets, duffel bags, and patchwork vests.
Adding to the show’s element of “performance,” many of the models appeared with faces painted like mimes, on stilts, and even headless. We’ll be honest, sometimes brands miss the mark when it comes to merging fashion shows with performance art, but KidSuper SS25 pretty much swaggered along the tightrope between the two.
