Louise Trotter just showed her first collection at Bottega Veneta today, and it was a 10/10. The creative director dropped her first tease of her take on Bottega back in June, with a campaign (featuring Tyler, the Creator, Dave Free and Julianne Moore, among others) that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the legendary intrecciato weave.
The British designer’s SS26 collection featured boxy silhouettes with synched waists in outerwear and tailoring, which brought some ‘80s energy, while oversized suiting, ruched leathers and a range of exciting textures brought the new Bottega era to life.

The accessories were strong: intrecciato clutches that resembled wash bags, new totes – some dramatic, some more sleek – and big duffel bags were introduced in buttery leathers with fur details, as well as the classic intrecciato. On the shoes you could spot new iterations of classic Bottega silhouettes as well as fresh designs in mules and pumps. The sporty sunglasses were a fun touch, juxtaposing against the more smart tailoring.
Louise added her whimsical touch with her signature silky fabrics in drop-waist dresses, feathered outerwear, bold colours that shone through the sea of neutrals, and the most mesmerising bouncy pieces made out of recycled fibreglass which moved like shimmering koosh balls. The fur-trimmed bombers and overcoats were also standouts.
This was an exceptional debut from Trotter; she took on the Bottega Veneta house codes and the house’s emphasis on craft and created an effortless and timeless collection that was luxuriously sophisticated and intriguingly dramatic.
