sacai has joined forces with KAWS for its FW21 collection. This collaboration comes as no surprise as sacai’s founder and designer Chitose Abe and artist KAWS share a mutual long-term admiration for each other’s work.
The collection celebrates freedom of creative expression while disregarding all preconceived notions of what clothing should look like. The fashion house has always respected and admired creativity originating straight from the streets, a key notion that is apparent in this collection. The clothes can be seen exploring several musical counter-cultures such as hip hop and punk, while staying true to sacai’s streetwear-infused aesthetic. KAWS’ touch is easily recognized throughout the collection which offers a sense of “wearable art”.
The collection includes two-tone bomber-style jackets, cargo pants and multi-coloured military prints, as well as a range of bags including backpacks, sacoche and bum bags. In addition, a brand new KAWS X sacai Nike Blazer Low was spotted in two colourways, including a predominantly red and orange model and a blue model. The sneakers feature sacai’s stacked Swoosh as well as KAWS’ signature XX mark.
After revealing the collaboration, KAWS took to Instagram to state “I’m happy to finally be able to share this collaborative project I worked on with @sacaiofficial I consider Chitose Abe a friend and I’m thankful she’s welcomed my work into her creative world“.
The KAWS X sacai collection will be made available July 2021.
