KAWS: From Street Artist To Pop-Culture Icon.

Music by: Cabaret Nocturne – Wrong Tragedy.

It’s CULTED with your 60-second ART BLAST.

KAWS has slowly risen to become one of the most beloved and – simultaneously – one of the art world’s most controversial artists.

Known for his cartoonish iconography and towering sculptures, KAWS’ success began with his so-called ‘ad disruptions’ – going around NYC and painting over poster ads of famous brands.

Since then, his success has skyrocketed, earning admiration from brands and designers alike, but art critics seem unwilling to label him as nothing more than a ‘street artist’, and are disgruntled by the possibility that one of his paintings could sell for $14.8M.

Nevertheless, KAWS’ portfolio includes collabs with high-profile brands like Dior, Comme des Garçons and Nike, and he has also created artwork with popular musicians, including Travis Scott and Kid Cudi’s new collaboration.

KAWS’ large-scale public installations are also signature, appearing all over the world.

While veering away from pure art may once have been considered an artist taboo, KAWS is the example that the definition of a contemporary artist knows no limit.

What do you think of his work?
