If anyone knows their way around American prep, it’s Tommy Hilfiger. For Spring 2027, though, the brand is shaking up the rulebook.
Taking over The Plaza Hotel during New York Fashion Week, Tommy Hilfiger transformed the landmark’s Palm Court and Terrace Room into the backdrop for “Plaza Prep,” a collection that looks back across four decades of New York style before bringing those references firmly into the present.
Prep’s usual suspects are all here, just not quite as you remember them. The familiar red, white and blue palette is interrupted by flashes of yellow and green, landing across rugby-inspired dresses, striped Oxford shirts and tartan tailoring. Proportions are equally playful, with polos swinging between cropped and oversized silhouettes, complete with miniature embroidered crests.
Classic chinos get a more dramatic rethink, appearing as tiny hot pants and trousers defined by twisting seams. The Tommy Flag also gets the faded treatment, appearing across buttery suede outerwear, silk-cashmere knits and oversized carry-all bags.
Down below, the footwear dips into another chapter of American style. Chunky two-tone skate sneakers nod to the ’90s, while boat shoes, penny loafers and leather slides keep one foot planted firmly in Tommy Hilfiger territory.
Gigi Hadid kicked off the runway, with Kate Moss, Camila Cabello, JISOO, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Carmelo Anthony and Arón Piper among the names watching from the crowd. The Matt Jones Orchestra provided the soundtrack before Romeo Beckham stepped out in the closing look, followed by a surprise performance from Slayyyter.
Four decades into its story, Tommy Hilfiger isn’t abandoning prep. With “Plaza Prep,” it’s simply having a lot more fun with it.
