There’s no denying that Rihanna is one of the most fashionable pregnant women, well, ever. From the pregnancy announcement in a hot pink Chanel puffer, to the all-sequin look from The Attico, to endless off-duty looks, her maternity wardrobe didn’t come to play.
Speaking about navigating pregnancy to Entertainment Tonight about maternity fashion at an event, Ri said that “It’s a long nine to 10 months. You have to enjoy it. I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I could (sic). And fashion is one of my favourite things, so, you know, we’re defying what it even means to be pregnant and maternal”. Talented and self aware.
However, despite this, (and our love for her, we must add) one of her recent looks missed the mark. Stepping out in a full custom Alexander Wang outfit, we saw the musician and beauty mogul in an oversized leather jacket with matching miniskirt and boots. In 2020, a series of allegations against the designer surfaced, which surrounded groping and unsolicited advances with over 10 people. Since then, despite the charges being dropped, Wang has lost much of his reputation, esteem and respect in the industry and beyond.

We asked our community their thoughts on the matter – is it just clothes, or do celebrities have a responsibility with their fashion choices? The response was mixed. Saina recognised the importance of acknowledging the fact, without passing judgement – commenting that they’re “glad someone is talking about that”. Others said it was “sad because he was such a great designer and made luxury clothing affordable” – note the past tense.
However, others disagreed with our take, asking “why can’t we separate art from artist”, and questioning “what’s wrong if the charges were dropped?”. @pmf_hennessy asked “How does what a designer has done affect a customer?”, starting a dialogue which included Joaozinho’s response of “when the customer is a celebrity that a lot of ppl look up to it matters, they have a responsibility about their image since they profit off of it”. Similarly, user jxsrxj explained that “she’s choosing to display his work and bring more attention – she has notability and potion of influence, and it shouldn’t be used on ppl like A. Wang”.
The look, whether you agree with our take or not, definitely divided opinions.
