NIKE GOES DIGITAL ON ITS .SWOOSH PLATFORM

The rise of the Internet has made it so much easier for communities to connect, no matter where in the world they are based, including the sneakerhead community. Nike noticed this phenomenon, which became the building block for .SWOOSH, its online community-based platform. 

With over 330,000 .SWOOSH members, the Web3 community has come together with Nike to create the sneaker brand’s first ever digital collection titled Our Force 1. Paying homage to the iconic Air Force 1, which first debuted 41 years ago, the OF1 brings together the past, present and future in over a hundred remixes.

The drop, which will start today through a series of poster drops sent to a randomly selected group of .SWOOSH members which will be available for purchase on May 8, and on May 10 to all community members, will come in the form of 2 boxes. The first, the Classic Remix Box, will feature archive designs from 1982 till 2006 and the second, the New Wave Box, will have designs from 2007 and later, as well as custom futuristic AF1 iterations.

Priced at $19.82, a nod to the year the AF1 was initially released, each box will contain an NFT ready to mint by those who have acquired it. “The OF1 collection shows how Nike will continue to innovate at the intersection of play and culture for the future of sports” states Ron Faris, the General Manager of Nike Virtual Studios. “We are exploring new ways to tell stories and create relationships while removing the barriers and limitations of physical product,” he goes on to say, in an effort to make .SWOOSH the “marketplace of the future”.

Once members have received their box and their digital pair of shoes, they will be able to wear their Nike Virtual Creation in video games, as well as further customising the pair by receiving the 3D design file. 

Nike’s virtual collection is pioneering the future of digital designs, not only by setting an affordable price point as opposed to the regular overpriced NFTs we’ve seen from other creators, but also by prioritising its community.
