It’s that time of year where all your favourite fashion brands put on their Santa hats and deck out their campaigns with tinsel, but for MM6 Maison Margiela, the Holiday season is spent in a rundown warehouse.
The Maison Margiela diffusion line’s Holiday 2023 campaign was shot by photographer and friend of the brand Indigo Lewin, where models are seen nonchalantly posing while standing over silver-coloured confetti sprawled all over the floor.
While there’s nothing traditional about celebrating the season’s festivities in a warehouse, the offering gives us a wardrobe of classics. But of course because it’s MM6 Maison Margiela, there’s a touch of subversion. Classic tailored suit jackets feature founder Martin Margiela’s design signature, the unfinished hemline, while a women’s sheer, subtly pleated dress is matched with straight, smart trousers.
With the Tabi swiper’s sneaky thefts earlier this year installing fear in all of us, MM6 Maison Margiela offers the steal-proof alternative with its rounded heeled ballet flats, finished off with the classic Maison Margiela numerical label in the form of a stretchy band and thin bows found on the toe box.
Subversion continues in the accessories, where the use of its flashy silver and fluorescent yellow coloured bags disrupt the otherwise muted tones of the collection. Three different styles, all with folded edges, can be found inspired by the art of origami making, in tune with MM6 Maison Margiela’s long-time standing appreciation of Japanese culture and design.
The flamboyant colours are also attached to ready-to-wear pieces, with the Holiday staple knitted jumper adopting the fluo yellow colour. Straight-fitting denim jeans finished off with a creased silver finish complete the offering, adding just the right amount of transgression to the traditional end-of-year celebration season.
