You’ve seen the unboxing teasers all over your socials, and the newest Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster collaboration is finally here — well, almost.

Continuing its longtime partnership, the Parisian House and Korean eyewear label are back together for yet another timeless and stylistic offering. Conceived by Maison Margiela’s Creative Director John Galliano, the new collection comprises seventeen pieces: ten sunglasses and seven spectacles.

The launch was accompanied by a dreamscape of a campaign shot by photographer Jordan Hemingway. Images merge the House’s couture-leaning aesthetic with Gentle Monster’s larger-than-life approach, transcending all space and time for an otherworldly narrative, teasing what the feeling of wearing these sunglasses will feel like.

The super specs are seen shielding its wearer from apocalyptic skies, where the sun beams through grey clouds. Models showcase the sunnies while wearing Maison Margiela pieces akin to January’s Maison Margiela Artisanal 2024 collection, which was catnip for just about anyone into clobber and an exemplary showcase of Galliano’s avant-garde reductionism. Throughout the campaign, we get a beautiful collision of Gentle Monster’s futuristic design and Maison Margiela’s unconventional artistic approach.

When it comes to product, mask-like MM101 AND MM102 styles give us a speedy wrap-around style which is moulded to the contours of the eyes and the nose. Joining them are acetate frames in black, white, grey, cream, transparent and tortoiseshell, as well as a belter set of leather framed editions in back, ivory, khaki and blue nuances.

Of course, because it’s Gentle Monster, the launch of this second collaboration will be accompanied by avant-garde, monstrous installations in five global cities, finding the sweet spot between human and robotic interactions.

The full set will drop on March 7 in stores and online.
