It’s been 3 years since Ye announced Donda 2 and, for a long time, it seemed like an album that would never see the light of day. But, much to our surprise, Ye actually decided to drop it on streaming service.
The timeline of this album is as confusing and as long as it gets so prepare yourself. The existence of Donda 2 was made known at the start of 2022, with Kanye himself confirming that it would drop on 22nd February, with the album being executive produced by Future. He even held a private listening party that month, inviting artists like Travis Scott, Yung Lean and Drake to hear it at Nobu in Los Angeles. He held another listening party in Miami several days later and built even more hype around the project before he announced, on the week of Donda 2’s release, that it would exclusively release on his Stem Player (you remember the one).
A couple of months later, in May 2022, he dropped his track “TRUE LOVE” featuring the late XXXTENTACION and it became the supposed lead single for the album. He then held another listening party hosted by Burberry during London Fashion Week in October before dropping a documentary called “LAST WEEK” that had snippets of songs like “530” and “First Time In A Long Time” from Donda 2. The album went pretty quiet after that - apart from several leaks that were surfacing online from fans. He clearly pivoted his attention onto Vultures with Ty Dolla $ign and his album BULLY.
That’s until now. He went on stream with Adin Ross and SNEAKO as well as Digital Nas and N3on to preview some new mixes of Donda 2 songs before he announced that he needed to drop the project. And that’s where we are today, with the album released under the artist name Donda on several streaming services including Apple Music, YouTube and Tidal.
The feature list is pretty stacked, too, with appearances from Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Playboi Carti, Baby Keem, Future, Jack Harlow and Migos. Some well-known songs from the album include cult-favourite “530,” “Mr Miagi” and “Pablo.” He's expected to upload more songs and mixes as samples get cleared so this is by no means the finished article.
