For all us fashion mfs out there, raw Japanese selvedge denim is the peak of IYKYK drip. Crafted with shuttle looms, which puts less tension on the yarn, and being sold unwashed, this type of denim is softer and is said to age better. And Japan is the GOAT in the selvedge craft, with Kojima being the Mecca of Japanese denim. Scroll down for the best of the best.
The Momotaro wide straight pair

Based in Okayama, Momotaro is hyped for its excellent craftsmanship from its weaving and sewing to its washing, resulting in top-quality denim. This straight-fit pair is a nice segue into selvedge.
The Naked & Famous Elephant 13

Love the name, love the garms. This Elephant 13 model is made from 21oz heavyweight Japanese selvedge. Typical selvedge is made from white cotton yarn dipped in indigo, but this sturdy pair is first dipped into red leaving a red undertone in its colour and fade.
The Levi’s Made in Japan 501s

This archival reproduction of Levi’s 1947 501 jeans is on the slimmer side, designed with a post-war slim fit (but it’s ok cos Hedi’s bringing skinny jeans back), using the same 12oz red line selvedge denim, like it did in 1947.
The Samurai Jeans Zero World War wide straight fit

This 17oz pair is crafted with Bushido selvedge denim for optimal quality, it has a strong, rough feel but will age like wine. We’re obsessed with the brand’s leather patches, each model has a different graphic on the patch. For this one it’s Musashi and Kojiro swordsmen shaking hands in peace.
The Edwin Made in Japan loose fit

Edwin’s Made in Japan collection takes on traditional Japanese denim weaving with 13.5oz Kaihara pure selvedge. This baggier straight leg fit will be a staple for years to come.
