Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons might have their own distinct styles, but their link ups each season at Prada since they became co-creative directors in 2020 are consistently seamless. Miuccia and Raf really just vibe together. Here’s how they became the ultimate design duo.
Raf Simons has been close with the Prada Group since Miuccia Prada’s husband, Patrizio Bertelli, hit him up for Jil Sander in 2005, where he’s credited with bringing his signature style to the brand. Apparently Miuccia wanted some of that signature for Prada too, because in 2020 she announced Raf would be joining her as co-CD at Prada.

The thing that we couldn’t get over when Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons dropped their first co-designed Prada collection in 2020 was how the show wasn’t a case of adding and subtracting. Instead of the duo having to cut and shape themselves to match the other’s vibe, they acted like jigsaw pieces that just fit into each other.
Raf Simons brought his fuss-free silhouettes and Miuccia Prada delivered on the “ugly chic” archetype she’s famous for. Neither of them held back, reigned it in, or gave way for the other, but somehow it still worked. It worked so well that Prada’s maintained its rep as one of the hottest brands in the world.

That’s partly because they share the same ideas about clothing. In an interview last year, Raf said, “We like very much the idea that the final garment is going to sit on a person,” and Miuccia finished his sentence by saying, “Because that is the reality of our job. What I really hate at this moment is fake creativity. Creativity for nothing. Creativity without a clue.”
That sums up how aligned their attitudes are. Their shared goal is functionality, designing clothes for people, created to be worn, loved, and handed on. Both Miuccia and Raf’s perspectives on fashion are the same and that’s why they vibe so well together. It’s not often we see a design duo that vibe so well - that’s why Miuccia and Raf’s Prada will always be GOATed.
