Skepta’s MAINS Season 2 was an ode to the hustlers

Skepta’s Season 2 collection for his brand MAINS took us back to the classroom for a lesson on hustling. Combining both men’s and women’s wear as well as Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter, MAINS’ collections tend to deliver a ton all in one sweep, and we won’t lie: it’s a lot to take in. So here’s everything that went down at MAINS’ Season 2 show (take notes: this will be in the pop quiz).

When a world famous rapper takes on the task of founding a fashion brand, it’s safe to expect something big, and MAINS is no exception. This season even just the show’s location was immense, held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, a vast space that fittingly doubles as a place of education.

And it needed to be vast considering the crowd that packed into the room to see MAINS’ second collection. From Central Cee and Jack Harlow to Dave and Slawn, close friends and family of Skepta piled in to witness a collection that was basically an ode to them.

As Skepta outlined in his show notes, typed in the form of an end of term report and stamped with a tick, this season was “a celebration of the Academy that me and my fellow creatives have assembled today … I’ve lost count how many successful people around the world that I saw starting out, hustling and harnessing their super powers to become world stars.”

Following the theme of the Academy, the collection was based around archetypal school uniforms, but elevated in a way that made them infinitely less lame. The collection opened with a crisp, white suit detailed with drawings of protractors and rulers, playing into the theme of the schoolyard.

The school uniform was given an update, seen in bicycle shorts worn with shirts untucked under jumpers, and pleated skirts spanning both men’s and women’s looks. One model even carried a stereo. What elevated a lot of the collection was the accessories, seen in leather gloves, fur hats, a multitude of ties, and MAINS duffel bags that are still on our minds. The show saw Kicker’s, Knit Up, New Era collaborations on the runway.

What Skepta’s academy aims to teach is hustling, drive, and style, and all three were delivered at MAINS’ Season 2 show.
