Hiroshi Fujiwara is taking Moncler back to where it all began.
After years of exploring the crossroads of fashion, technology and global culture, the latest Moncler x FRGMT collection shifts its attention away from the pace of city life and towards the calm of the mountains. Looking to Japan as both a creative and cultural touchstone, the new chapter reflects Fujiwara's own design philosophy, favouring restraint, functionality and considered detailing. At its core is an invitation to “Rise Above the Chaos”, using thoughtful, purposeful design to strip away distraction and reconnect with the outdoors.
This season's collection centres around a vintage Japanese souvenir varsity jacket, a silhouette that merges American varsity and Japanese souvenir influences and has long been a staple of Fujiwara's personal wardrobe. Reworked as a reversible design, it features intricately embroidered maps tracing a journey from Japan to Italy, symbolising the longstanding relationship between the designer and the Italian outerwear house.
The campaign also follows the same minimalist direction, placing Fujiwara himself in front of the camera against stripped-back backdrops, accompanied in select images by a dog inspired by the collection's playful puppy graphic. Together, with the campaign’s recurring gondola motif, the imagery represents a journey away from the noise of everyday life and towards a more considered state of mind.
Across the wider range, earthy textures and understated graphics define the offering. A deep green-and-black gradient check appears throughout brushed flannel shirting and outerwear before carrying over into mohair knitwear. Elsewhere, graffiti-style Moncler FRGMT branding sits alongside embroidered nods to Casa Moncler, the brand's recently unveiled Milan headquarters.
Designed with the changing season in mind, the collection swaps Moncler's signature down-filled construction for lighter layering pieces, including windbreakers, overshirts, hoodies, knitwear, T-shirts and tailored trousers. For the first time, the collaboration also expands into childrenswear with the introduction of FRGMTmini, reimagining key pieces from the adult collection in miniature proportions.
The release is also accompanied by a three-way footwear collaboration with Clarks Originals. Building on Moncler's earlier reworking of the Wallabee, Fujiwara introduces his own interpretation, combining the classic suede upper with Moncler's Trailgrip Vibram sole and GORE-TEX construction. Finished in an all-black colourway with subtle Fragment branding, the hybrid silhouette is designed to transition seamlessly from the street to the trail.
The Moncler x FRGMT by Hiroshi Fujiwara collection is available now through selected Moncler stores and online, while the Moncler x Clarks Originals x Fragment Trailgrip Wallabee GTX launches at Moncler's Ginza flagship on August 29 before rolling out to selected Japanese stores from September 1.
