Marc Jacobs has always been a designer known for his link ups with the art world, changing the game in fashion with his collaborations with artists like Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse, and Richard Prince during his tenure at Louis Vuitton. His respect for artists, using his fashion designs as a canvas to spotlight their unique style and talent, has stayed consistent throughout Jacobs’ career. In his eponymous brand’s new limited-edition capsule collection, Marc Jacobs’ love of the art world manifests through his latest celebration of JOY: a collaboration with a trio of renowned artists.

Blurring the boundaries between art and fashion, Marc Jacobs has hit up three legendary names from the art world to bring to life the concept of JOY as a wearable capsule collection. Involved in the collab is David Shrigley, whose prints with tongue-in-cheek slogans you’ve for sure seen hanging on a mate’s wall. Then there’s Derrick Adams, the artist bringing vibrancy and personality to his depictions of Black identity. And finally, Hattie Stewart, whose graffiti style “doodle-bombs” (her term) have been on plenty of magazine covers.

The result of Marc Jacobs’ link up with this trio of artists is a limited-edition capsule collection that embodies JOY in its most vivid form. Translated into ready-to-wear, accessories, and signature bags, the collection is bright, hypnotic, and playful. It’s a reminder that, even in pretty bleak times, fashion really does have the ability to inject JOY into our wardrobes and lives.

The collaboration isn’t limited to fashion items, though, as it also spans sports and lifestyle products. Working with a ton of different brands, who have each interpreted the campaign through their own products, the collaboration expands to Converse’s sneakers, SHUT’s skateboards, Gibson Les Paul guitars, Brompton’s bikes, maxbone’s pet accessories, Crayola’s collectible boxes, and two Barbie dolls wearing miniature versions of the capsule’s apparel pieces.

Accompanying the release of the new capsule collection, Marc Jacobs will be hosting a series of gallery-inspired pop-ups and immersive installations across the globe, in New York, Paris, and Tokyo. You can also find the collection online and in the brand’s boutiques worldwide, of course including Marc Jacobs’ iconic Regency Street flagship.
