LOEWE’s holiday collection is bringing some much welcome festive cheer.
Combining vibrant hues, glossy metallics and sumptuous textures, with mischievous characters, the offering is the perfect antidote to mid-winter gloom.
Much of the collection takes inspiration from the works of Louis Wain: the British artist known for his charming portrayals of cats. Throughout the holiday capsule, cats and kittens are a recurring motif, present across all aspects of the offering and combining Wain’s inventive animal universe with the elevated craftsmanship of LOEWE.
Born in 1860, Wain’s work is intimately tied with the joy and cheer of Christmas. The first of his feline-centred works to be published was A Kitten's Christmas Party, a drawing of 150 cats which took 11 days to complete. Further into his career, Wain’s illustrated cat annuals were a popular festive present, and the artist published 15 of these in his lifetime.
For the LOEWE holiday collection, signature bags (such as the Puzzle, Flamenco clutch and Amazona) are adorned with cat imagery crafted in intricate intarsia, embroideries, print, or in trompe l’oeil knit. The Futurist Cat clutch takes inspiration from Wain’s latent cubist and futurist influences, particularly his geometric Futurist Cats series of porcelain vases.
Elsewhere, the brand demonstrates the centrality of leather to its DNA with a buttery soft bag offering spanning the sleek Joya pouch, the Hammock Flip, the Puzzle Panta, the Flamenco, and the new Draped Tote. In ready-to-wear, a cropped jacket in nappa lambskin, a motorcycle jacket with a daring silhouette, and luxe knitwear all champion elevated materials.
Across footwear, the feline theme continues with the feline heel charm on the Toy pump. The Bobine bootie, Petal Anagram and Flamenco Knot sandals and mules offer a sculptural take on shoes.For the men’s offering, leather remains a strong theme with premium bags such as the Puzzle, and the new Loop Bucket as well as the Loop Hobo, and shoes like The Bobine and Bobby Handle boots.
The collection’s vibrant energy also spills over into LOEWE’s unique, complimentary festive gift packaging, where a menagerie of cats and kittens animates festive packaging including boxes, ribbons and tags.
