Curated streaming platform, MUBI is working to make the world of film more accessible for students with its Student Program, offering 60 days free to watch the movies you already love and the ones you don’t know you love yet.
If you’re a fan of film, from iconic directors to emerging auteurs, MUBI has plenty on offer for you to dive into. One film in particular is MUBI’s latest release “The Mastermind”, starring Josh O’Connor and directed by Kelly Reichardt. Set in Massachusetts circa 1970, director Kelly Reichardt immerses us in the hazy landscape of the United States in the fallout from the Vietnam War, following a suburban family man, J.B. Mooney (played by Josh O’Connor) as he leads a double life as an amateur art thief, embarking on his first heist.
From the film’s tongue-in-cheek dialogue to its aesthetic shots, the plot easily walks the line between dramatic suspense and light comedy. Reichardt’s use of minimalism, realism, and slow cinema creates a juxtaposition between the routine of J.B. Mooney’s life as a family man and his thrill-seeking attempt at becoming a genuine art thief.
You can watch Kelly Reichardt’s instant classic, “The Mastermind” and so many more movies on MUBI for free by signing up to its Student Program, at mubi.com/cultedforstudents (and don’t worry if you’ve already graduated you can start with one month free here).

As a MUBI Student you’ll have access to an amazing collection of movies, but by signing up you’ll also get access to a special student film collection, receive custom recommendations from MUBI’s team of curators, and exclusive access to events, MUBI Fests, contests and giveaways.
