Cuppas and Burberry Classics with Kai-Isaiah Jamal and Lennon Gallagher

Burberry is back with another belter Classics collection, and it's as British as Sunday roasts and scranning scampi fries in the local. Kai-Isaiah Jamal and Lennon Gallagher have starred in the campaign, showing off the collection's versatility. It encompasses a load of House checked heaters, including Pag bags and terrace sneakers, which feature across the campaign.

Even if you’ve never been to Britain, you probably know that it rains pretty much all the time. So, it makes sense that Burberry’s Classic collection features heritage-inspired trenches, car coats, and Harington jackets. These quintessentially Burberry pieces join Equestrian Knight motif-branded puffers, nylon jackets, polo shirts, hoodies and joggers.

With Kai and Lennon starring in the campaign, we thought it was only right to catch up with them to chat about Britishness, Burberry Classics, and tea.

What makes something a classic?

Kai-Isaiah Jamal: When something is timeless, when it feels close to or is a blueprint. There’s a legacy feeling around the word classic.

Lennon Gallagher: Consistency.

When you think of Burberry, what comes to mind?

KIJ: I always say that Burberry feels like the meeting point for polar worlds in fashion. For me, growing up working class, it was a brand that was often synonymous with that, but it was luxury and high fashion. Personally, I think it’s when high fashion excels when a collection or brand exists in multiple wardrobes and worlds. It can exist with duality. It’s [great] because it’s chic, and it’s gorgeous because it has grit, and the two cannot exist without the other truly.

LG: Quintessentially British.

The Classics collection has expanded to include rainwear. What are your rainy-day survival tips?

KIJ: I don’t really love the rain if I’m caught in it unexpectedly, to be honest, because I don’t like what it does to my hair! I also hate umbrellas (a true contradiction), but once in a while, getting caught in a downpour is the refresher you need, so word to Drew Barrymore for going out into the rain. But if you aren’t feeling [like getting] caught in Mother Nature’s shower, a good hood, or a good mac and a leather shoe so your socks don’t get wet.

LG: Always wear boots and have an umbrella at the ready.

This campaign feels quintessentially British. What is your ideal British afternoon?

KIJ: Dismantling the empire.

LG:  Sitting in the park with my friends if the sun finally decides to make an appearance.

What is the most British thing you have done today?

KIJ: Had a cuppa!

LG: Queued for an overpriced coffee.

What is the first song that comes to mind when you’re wearing Burberry?

KIJ: Amy Winehouse because of the previous show. That was a true highlight.

LG: Cosmic Dancer by T.Rex.

What is the first thing you’re doing in the Burberry Classics collection?

KIJ: I wore all Burberry Classics to Glastonbury festival, and I never felt so British.

LG: A walk around central London.

What is your favourite item from the Burberry Classics collection?

KIJ: Burberry check shorts and a white tee, for sure.
