Valentino’s latest Black Tie campaign for FW23 features Kaia Gerber in an elegant and slightly punk series of images photographed by Steven Meisel.
The campaign was shot in Long Island, New York, specifically at the Oheka Castle. Gerber can be seen posing in the castle’s lounging spaces, including on a decadent chair and laying effortlessly by a sofa.
It’s classic, timeless, opulent and captures the beauty associated with Valentino but with a certain edge conveyed through the clothing. Kaia Gerber can be seen wearing different iterations of a redesigned suit, including a maxi skirt paired with a cropped jacket styled with studded heels and a little black dress connected at the neckline with a classic shirt white collar.
The black tie, a key accessory to the Italian house, is stripped from its masculine identity and placed on Gerber as a way to signify creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s rebellion against traditional codes of fashion. Valentino gives the tie a feminine edge, allowing them to feel the elegance and power that comes with such a status symbol.
