Hedi Slimane’s CELINE has become renowned for the digital films it drops each season in the place of physical runway shows, and its Womens Summer 25 show is no exception.
Set against the backdrop of Compiègne - a mansion originally built for French royalty that was once occupied by Louis XV and visited by Marie Antoinette - CELINE’s Womens 25 show followed the same quaint, vintage vibe as its Mens 25 film which also dropped recently and was an ode to tailoring.
Inspired by the Parisian club nights that Creative Director Hedi Slimane documented in 2003, the collection was conjured up by the designer whilst reading the novel La Chamade and listening to The Velvet Underground earlier this year. For context, the French book La Chamade, written by François Sagan, is about a kept mistress who falls in love with a young Bohemian guy, and this theme of femininity and seduction is evident in CELINE’s collection.
Pleated boarding school skirts and babydoll dresses add a touch of softness and youth to the collection, furthered by clips of models carrying lambs and surrounded by sheep. However, these are subverted by the sharp, tailored lines of A-line skirts and blazers, and the exotic details of lizard, python, and crocodile leather slingbacks.
The collection also revealed a new creation within CELINE’s haute perfumerie line: the scent of “UN ÉTÉ FRANÇAIS” is worn by all of the models in the film of the same name for Summer 25. Fragranced with the scent of bergamot, petitgrain, neroli, jasmine, and vanilla, the scent evokes vision of a perfumed garden facing the sparkling Mediterranean.
