Snoop Dogg's life story is heading to cinemas next summer, with Universal Pictures confirming that its upcoming biopic will premiere on August 6, 2027. The film takes over a release date previously reserved for an untitled Universal project, giving the hip-hop icon a major summer launch.
Stepping into the role of Snoop Dogg is 'Outer Banks' star Jonathan Daviss, who will portray the rapper's rise from Long Beach to becoming one of the defining figures in music and popular culture. The film is directed by Craig Brewer, who also revised the screenplay after an initial draft by Joe Robert Cole. Brewer is best known for 'Hustle & Flow' and 'Song Sung Blue', and the biopic is expected to feature music spanning Snoop's extensive catalogue.
The project also marks an important milestone for Death Row Pictures, serving as the first production to emerge from the company's partnership with NBCUniversal. Snoop Dogg joins the film as a producer alongside Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker, while Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer, whose previous credits include '8 Mile', is also part of the producing team.
Universal has built a strong reputation for music biopics over the years, having previously released films including 'Straight Outta Compton' and '8 Mile'. With Snoop Dogg's career stretching across music, film, television and business, the studio will be hoping to add another standout title to that list when the biopic arrives in cinemas.
