Come with us to spend the day at Montblanc Haus, exploring its exhibitions, getting locked into the brand’s archives, and delving into the pioneering world of Montblanc.
Arriving in Hamburg, Germany - the home of Montblanc’s iconic writing instruments - we hit up Montblanc Haus for a day delving into the brand’s history. First on the tour, we found ourselves exploring the brand’s “Inspire Writing” exhibition. From a 360° experience to a physical installation actually made out of Montblanc’s famous pens, the entire space is designed as a visual history of the inspiration, imagination, and creative process of putting words to paper.
Walking through the “Inspire Writing” exhibition, you’ll find original handwritten notes from famous figures, including literary icon Ernest Hemingway, acclaimed artist Frida Kahlo, and actor, stuntman, and martial artist Jackie Chan - it's literally like looking at pieces of history. Amongst these historic relics, you can also explore a collection of over 410 Montblanc iconic Meisterstück in different iterations from throughout the brand’s rich history which are on display.
Tracing the history of Montblanc’s writing instrument collections through the “Inspire Writing” exhibition, from the snippets of handwriting from historic icons to the 360° immersive experience and rich storytelling, allows you to actually see the Meisterstück’s impact in pop culture, from its creation in 1924 up until today. And trust us when we say its impact has been massive.
Next on the tour, we headed into Montblanc’s new “INSPIRE WRITING | FILMMAKING” exhibition, a guide through the filmmaking process, which immersed us in the re-imagined studio set from the brand’s campaign film: “100 Years of Meisterstück,” written and directed by Wes Anderson. Walking into the alpine-esque space is like stepping into a snowy chalet, with the intention of immersing you in the world of filmmaking and “inviting the world to rediscover the timeless art of writing through a new and perhaps unexpected lens,” as Vincent Montalescot, Montblanc Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer explains.
After snapping a pic for our team Christmas card against the snowy backdrop of Mont Blanc, we were next invited to peek into a part of Montblanc Haus that normally guests don’t get to see: the archives. Slipping into Montblanc’s vault of archives, we were able to take an exclusive look at the history of its pens, including the iconic Meisterstück range, from its original fountain pens created in 1924 to the famous “149” model and limited edition High Artistry pieces from today.
Looking back at the last hundred of Montblanc’s Meisterstück collection really puts into perspective the extent of its pens’ impact. Between being held by some of the world’s most inspirational writers and featuring on the silver screen with Wes Anderson himself, Montblanc designs more than simple pens: they’re heirlooms, pieces of history, and testaments to our love of the written word.
