New York has never been short of newsstands. But for a few days, there was a new one in town.
CULTED landed in NYC to launch "In Residence," our new travelling community franchise built around the people shaping culture in cities across the world. Created in partnership with Diesel Fragrances, its first stop saw us take over The Standard, High Line and, more importantly, put something physical into the hands of our community: our first-ever limited-edition zine.
Let's get one thing straight, though: this isn't about CULTED suddenly becoming a traditional print magazine. "In Residence" is about creating something far more specific. Every time the project arrives in a new city, we’ll hand the keys over to the creatives who make that place what it is, spotlighting the emerging writers, photographers, stylists, DJs, artists and collectives pushing its culture forward.
So naturally, New York was the perfect place to start. For the inaugural edition, we brought together some of the city’s most exciting creative voices, including Lil Tecca, Johnny Venus, Kaytranada, Honey Dijon, Maxevasion, and Sierra Rena, capturing a snapshot of New York culture as it exists right now.
Throughout the activation, copies were handed out completely free from the CULTED kiosk, giving our community the chance to come down, pick one up and discover some of the names defining New York’s next creative generation.
The Standard, High Line provided the perfect backdrop, too. Sitting right in the middle of one of Manhattan's busiest cultural pockets, the location meant the kiosk became a natural meeting point, allowing people to stop by, connect, and turn "In Residence" into the kind of creative melting pot that can sometimes feel increasingly rare in an overwhelmingly digital landscape.
New York was chapter one. Where we take the kiosk next is another story.
