Bella Hadid has spoken up on the controversy with adidas

Following her now-retracted SL72 campaign with adidas, Bella Hadid has taken to Instagram to finally speak on the situation. Here’s what you need to know.

Last night, Bella Hadid took to her Instagram story to break her silence on the recent controversy generated by adidas’ SL72 campaign, which featured her as the face, ascertaining that she is “shocked,” “upset,” and “disappointed in the lack of sensitivity that went into this campaign.”

The controversy around adidas’ campaign arose after the connection was made that the SL72 trainer which inspired adidas’ new sneaker drop was first revealed at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where 11 Israeli athletes were killed by a Palestinian terrorist group.

The decision by adidas to drop Palestinian model Bella Hadid from the campaign and delete all of its existing SL57-related posts was made after the Israeli government posted to X, claiming that adidas’ campaign was offensive.

Considering that Bella Hadid wouldn’t have been involved in developing the story behind the campaign, is it fair that she’s taking the blame for its backlash? According to her Instagram story, she had “no knowledge of the historical connection to the atrocious events in 1972” and “had [she] been made aware … [she] would never have participated.”

According to TMZ’s sources, Bella Hadid has consulted lawyers to build a case against adidas for its “lack of accountability,” but we’re yet to hear any more on this.
