Coachella 2025: Kneecap said their pro-Palestine message was cut from the livestream

Irish hip-hop group Kneecap said that they had their pro-Palestine message cut from the Coachella livestream.

The trio (Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí) – who are known for being outspoken with their political views – made their debut at Coachella on Friday, with an anti-Margaret Thatcher message: encouraging the California crowd to chant “Maggie’s in a Box” to the beat of “Give It Up” by KC and The Sunshine Band”, celebrating the British Conservative prime minister’s death. This was cut from the livestream.

“Not the only thing that was cut – our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either,” Kneecap said on socials. “Back next Friday Coachella and it’ll be sorted 🇯🇴”

Green Day managed to slip a few messages in, though. On the Saturday of Coachella’s Weekend One, Californian punk group Green Day also altered their lyrics for a political statement. For their song “American Idiot”, they changed the lyric “I’m not a part of the redneck agenda” to “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda”, and their song “Jesus of Suburbia” had a line changed to “Running away from pain, like the kids from Palestine”. Reports say that this lyric change was not removed from the streams.

Let’s see what goes down on Weekend Two.
