Carhartt and Converse – name a more iconic duo. Building out the skate shoe space, the two brands have collaborated to create two performance designs that build on the roots both brands have within the world of skateboarding.
Consisting of two styles, we see the low One Star Ox Pro and the mid Fast Break Ox Pro in this collection. Both combine fabrics such as suede, canvas, and leather in a way that subtly nods to the classic Carhartt pieces we all know and love, like the work jackets, suede runners and utilitarian design.
Carhartt WIP has always been about skating. First launching its skate team in 1997, alongside a dedicated BMX team, the brand straddled the worlds of sports and fashion, bringing the two worlds together under one style and performance conscious roof. Since then, we’ve seen the brand blossom in the streetwear world, becoming the go to for functional yet stylistically driven pieces, skaters or not.
However, their original dedication to the skating scene has never wavered – maintaining and growing their skate team and designing with the sport in mind. They have even released a series of skate films, books and hosted events – solidifying their position as at the top of the game.
For the brand’s collab with Converse CONS, we see both styles featuring a CONS traction rubber outsole and a CX foam insole, which offers improved cushioning. With the One Star Ox Pro design, Carhartt and Converse offer a gum rubber toe bumper detailing, applied in a contrast honey colour.
Branding, meanwhile, is kept minimal, with subtle detailing on the tongue, sockliner, and lace eyelets, as well as a debossed iteration of the Carhartt ‘C’ logo on the heel. For the campaign, the two have enlisted photographers from London, Paris, Los Angeles and San Francisco – personifying their reach as a global movement, as well as a brand.
The capsule is available now, at Carhartt stores and their website.
