If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and that was definitely the memo for Chanel’s FW25 collection that gave us more of what we know and love from the brand. It was classic Chanel at its very best with a more monochromatic undertone.
The first couple looks emblematic tweeds and bows on black, grey and white tones with sheer mesh detailing that enveloped the models’ shoulders, arms and legs. Almost like a light, protective layer that’s meant to be broken into, nodding to the looming entrance of Matthieu Blazy and the mark he might make on the French heritage brand.
Moving down the collection, you can see the design team getting more playful with the colour choices with powerful shades of pink, red and green. The classic tweed styles with the contrast trimming looked extremely Audrey Hepburn-ready and ‘60s-coded with a shallow, wide-brimmed hat to top it all off. The stacked pearls defo added to this too and we can’t forget about that bold eyeliner that every model was rocking. Hepburn vibes or not, the make-up went hard.
After the colourful interlude we had, we were back to the monochrome looks with splashes of pale green and purple. We had the FW25 signature fur, a lot of ruffled and ruched trims and even a fun pattern that remixes the Chanel “CC” logo.
In the absence of a proper creative director, the design team held it down for Chanel. They created the perfect blank canvas for Matthieu Blazy to come in and play with and, with the label’s rich history and house codes, he’s going to have an absolute field day.
