Balenciaga has launched its first-ever skiwear collection, consisting of a range of winter sports products, equipment and gear. Using innovative materials and crafted using techniques designed to prioritise visibility, insulation, aerodynamism and protection, the collection builds on the utilitarian themes seen in previous Balenciaga collections.
The campaign shows the items worn on the beach, drawing further attention to the high-vis nature of the collection. Beanie hats, heavyweight jackets and snow boots all appear in contrast to the sun-kissed backdrop of the campaign.
The offering consists of both clothing and functional sports gear, such as a snowboard, skis, a helmet and poles for downhill cross-skiing or hiking – a first for the brand. The clothing selection comprises parkas and cargo pants in membrane-bonded technical Ripstop with integrated snow shirts, battery-life-saving pockets and ski pass holders.
Outerwear pieces are water-repellent to keep the wearer warm and dry. There are thermal layers, fluffy knits and long-sleeved zip tops all helping to keep the wearer toasty on the slopes. Joining a range of traditional ski-wear items are ready-to-wear pieces, which update the brand’s popular streetwear-infused high fashion aesthetic with an outdoor-ready sensibility.
Fleece-lined jeans in blue-stretch denim are perfect for a more relaxed après-ski look. The footwear offering includes a thermally lined Alaska Boot designed for arctic conditions and a 3XL Ski Sneaker – a snow-capable revamp of the original.
The Balenciaga Snowboard and skis come in two sizes, and the Balenciaga helmet is made in collaboration with Briko, available in three sizes.
The Balenciaga skiwear collection will launch on November 14 in stores worldwide and on the Balenciaga Website.
