Everybody’s favourite collaborative watch duo are back together for a third time, and this one might be the best to date. Hublot tapped the Japanese artist Takashi Murakami to take on the MP-15 model.
Playful, sleek, and stylish, the Takashi Murakami x Hublot MP-15 becomes the first watch from the Swiss luxury watch company to feature a central flying tourbillon, marking a new and unique avenue in its forty-year history.
In fact, this watch is, in terms of construction, somewhat atypical, with the piece having a case fused with the dial and the movement. This distinctive style is complemented by Murakami’s signature twelve-petal floral motif, encasing the watch in a transparent sapphire.
The subtle, transparent look bleeds throughout the timeless piece, with its sapphire case, sapphire case-back, sapphire crown, translucent flange and white-coloured strap. Speaking on the collaboration, Murakami says “Up until now, my work has focused on colour. It was a really exciting challenge to start a whole new chapter focussing on absolute transparency,” which he explains resulted in a “unique and different identity which was purer and perfectly in tune with Hublot's mechanical universe.”
Both of their past collaborations have indeed had a completely different look, colour-wise at least. The first pair up in January 2021 consisted of an all-black Classic Fusion watch, while the second one took the same watch but decorated it with rainbow-inspired colours.
Priced at £273,000, the newest Takashi Murakami x Hublot MP-15 watch will only be made available in a limited series of fifty pieces. Grab yours while you can on Hublot’s website.
