Let's be real, NIGO has done it all. His work has stretched across fashion, music, interiors and hospitality. Now, guess what? His latest work is heading 51,000 feet into the air... And you could own some of it.
The Japanese creative has designed the NIGO JET, a bespoke Gulfstream G500 created with NOT A GARAGE, the new mobility venture operating under NOT A HOTEL parent company NOTA.
NIGO has been handed control of the aircraft's wider visual identity, extending his aesthetic from the exterior through to the cabin. Early renderings show the G500 wrapped in a muted matte finish, pairing a deep olive body with contrasting copper tones across its lower section and engines. The exterior treatment remains a proposed design for now, but offers the clearest indication of NIGO's understated approach to the project.
The plane has also been divided into three individual living areas designed around working, dining and sleeping, alongside a galley and lavatory. Fourteen oversized windows run along the aircraft, bringing natural light into a space built for considerably longer journeys.
And long journeys are exactly what it has been designed for. The G500 offers a range of approximately 9,800 kilometres, putting destinations including Los Angeles and Sydney within direct reach from Japan. It can travel at speeds of up to Mach 0.925, roughly 980 km/h, and operate at altitudes reaching 51,000 feet. The project will also mark the first Gulfstream G500 to operate from a Japanese base.
The aircraft will be stationed at Narita International Airport, with NOT A GARAGE and an operating partner taking responsibility for much of the less glamorous side of private aviation. Flight operations, staffing, insurance, maintenance, safety management and crew certification are all handled on behalf of owners as part of the service.
Chauffeur transfers are available from anywhere within Tokyo's 23 wards to either Narita or Haneda. Dedicated business aviation facilities then handle security and, for international journeys, immigration, customs and quarantine before passengers are driven directly to the aircraft.
NOT A HOTEL's chefs oversee the onboard food programme, while owners can make more specific requests, whether that's dishes from a favourite restaurant, freshly prepared Japanese food and sushi, particular bottles of champagne or wine, or even a birthday cake.
Much of this is controlled through the NOT A HOTEL app. Flights can be booked digitally, food and drinks ordered ahead of departure, and passenger and passport information stored for future trips. Owners can also hand flights over to friends or family without needing to travel themselves.
The ownership programme is planned around an eight-year term, effectively positioning the NIGO JET somewhere between a private aircraft, a hospitality experience and another piece of NIGO-designed lifestyle infrastructure.
