We’ve been stanning Aerin Creer and her style on IG for a while now, so we hit her up to find out more about her, from shopping and styling preferences to her night out dream team – Lil Nas X being one of them. Aerin models and creates content, but she didn’t gain her social media following by posting fit pics only, her freely-speaking, unapologetic approach on IG is also admired. So, I had a chat with her, and spoke about how she is bossing the scene.
Can you tell me a bit about yourself and your background and you got started as an Instagram influencer?
When I gained a following there wasn’t a word for what I do. “Influencing”— I didn’t know that was a career back in 2016 when I first went viral. All I knew is that I liked posting pictures of my outfits and people liked seeing my outfits. From then on, my social media career would kick off along with my modelling career. Most of my early content would be pictures of the shoots I’d done that week!

How would you describe your style? Where does your style inspiration come from?
I would describe my style as very personal. I don’t have many style inspirations. I may see an outfit that I like on someone else but I tend not to recreate or buy what another is wearing. It usually doesn’t look the same on me and I’m left disappointed. What really keeps me inspired is trying to outdo my last look.
You’re also a model and have worked with the likes of Puma. What would you say are the biggest differences between modelling and creating content for your instagram account?
The difference between modelling and creating content is who is in control. On my Instagram, I can curate exactly what I want, wear my clothes how I want, and say what I want.

Talk to me through your process of creating an Instagram post. Is it long? Do you plan all your posts or are they spur of the moment ideas?
It’s not really long. I try to keep all content organic— not too planned. I dislike when I feel like a creator is reading a script when talking to me so I tend to keep everything casual. None of my posts are “planned” exactly, I just know I want to post and I take pictures daily to make sure that happens. I honestly just take pictures of my fits and post them to discuss.
What would you say makes a successful influencer account?
Honestly? I’m not sure what makes a successful influencer account these days. Everybody has a different barometer for measuring success. Success might look like a pile of money to some, for others It might be finally gaining 10k followers. A lot of practices “successful” influencers do are something I would never do or recommend my audience to do.

Which designer/brand was your favourite to work with?
I don’t have a favourite. I love working with any brand I signed a contract with. Being on a CocaCola billboard was pretty cool though!
You previously stated you wouldn’t make an account on YouTube, why is that? Will Instagram stay your only social platform or do you see yourself moving towards other platforms in the future?
I had a Youtube account before, made a few videos, and they got decent views. I privatised those videos because I just simply do not want to be a YouTuber. It’s not something I’m into, but I gave It a go.
I’ve always had a twitter and I do have a TikTok.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Expect the unexpected!

What are the top places to shop in NYC (or wherever you are based!)?
Honestly, I’ve been disliking shopping for a bit. I don’t have any genuine recommendations for In person shopping. I’ve been wearing smaller brands and overseas designers.
Who are three social media influencers you’d wanna go on a night out with?
Bailey Sarian, Lil Nas X, Kurtis Conner
Weirdest Fashion Week interaction?
I don’t know if I’d count this as weird but meeting Whoopi Goldberg and her niece was pretty dope.
If you had to pick one colour to wear for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Heather Gray
