With fashion at its most saturated point ever, it’s become harder and harder to become noticed in the industry, even when the creative endeavors of the little men are often far more engaging than that of the heavyweights. Here, CULTED presents four fledgling labels we’re big fans of, all of which being young, emerging labels with creativity and swagger in abundance. From sweater vest king vladyslavslobodskoy.world to Sri Lankan designer Amesh Wijesekera, the amount of brands out there that are criminally underrated – and even more criminally, lacking media attention – is astonishing. Take a look at some of our favourites below.
AMESH WIJESEKERA
Graduate of the Academy of Design Sri Lanka Amesh Wijesekera’s eponymous label has garnered global recognition after a slew of domestic and international awards. His work is an ongoing, community-centric collaboration of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary design knowledge, combining textural variance with an obvious love for color and we’re here for it.
DES PIERROT
Worn by the likes of stylist & model Aleali May, artist Pressa Armani and many, many more, Des Pierrot is an experimental, envelope-pushing label adopted by the divisively-dressing fashion forward, from red carpet walkers to us common folk. The brand toys with textural changes, novel silhouettes and a host of patterns, colors and prints, making for a near infinite choice of statement pieces.
VLADYSLAVSLOBODSKOY.WORLD
Currently in the midst of an en-masse breakthrough as a result of being worn by Manu Rios, vladyslavslobodskoy.world is a punchy, hard-hitting knitwear master combining traditional techniques with new-age cynicism and humor. The now famous cream vest adorned with a heart motif – and characteristic hole in the heart – is a perfect illustration of the brand’s direction; polarising design is the name of the game here. This is furthered in the most recent addition to the project, which arrives with a “CUM IN MY HEART” graphic.
MARVIN DESROC
Presenting an empowering, emotive and provocative set of androgynous garments, and widely recognised for the unique lacewear silhouettes combining fishnets with intricate detailing, Marvin Desroc’s work aims to shift beauty standards and redefine normality. Never pulling any punches, the ex-Gucci designer creates unique pieces all fitting a very cultivated aesthetic.
