Matthieu Blazy might’ve only been at Bottega Veneta since 2021, but in the short time he was CD he’s become a part of the animal-shaped furniture (IYKYK). His time as CD has launched Bottega’s already iconic reputation into GOATed status, so picturing what the house would look like without him is hard.

Since the news dropped that Blazy will be heading to Chanel last week, and with Lacoste OG Louise Trotter taking over as Creative Director, we’ve been wondering what a Bottega without Blazy might actually look like. Let’s get into it.
We all know Matthieu Blazy’s Bottega for his insane designs and attention to detail, from his intrecciato accessories to his trompe l'œil denim jeans (that were actually made of leather) to the beanbag chairs he used as seating at SS25. But if you’re worried the Bottega we all know and love will be leaving with Blazy, dw, bc the house’s new CD Louise Trotter, who’s previously made brands like Carven, Lacoste, Joseph cool again, is another designer that just gets it.

Just have a quick scroll through Louise Trotter’s IG and you’ll easily spot similar traits to the Bottega Veneta collections we all know and love. Buttery soft military tailoring, experimentation with materials, a love of leather, and a focus on accessories are all in Louise Trotter’s trademark, so we’re imagining that her take on the house won’t be too dissimilar to the Bottega we’re loving rn.
Even the lo-fi photoshoots Louise Trotter’s been using for Carven’s campaigns, working with photographer Hero Bean Stevenson, are similar to those Matthieu Blazy’s become known for at Bottega Veneta. Stripped back and minimal, both designers get that their collection should do the talking.

The one change we might need to prep for is Matthieu Blazy’s roster of celebrities ditching Bottega to all go to Chanel with him. Ngl, A$AP might be out (he’s said in the past that really he loves Bottega because of Matthieu), but brand ambassadors like Jacob Elordi and RM won’t be budging. Looks like Blazy will have to appoint a new brand ambassador from his roster in his new role at Chanel - we’re hoping Rihanna might make the cut.
What do you think Louise Trotter’s Bottega Veneta will look like?
