A$AP Rocky wants to play Bond, and ngl, we’re down. In a cover interview with Variety released yesterday, Rocky said that he needs to be “the new Black James Bond.” "Like, why not?" he posed. "If we hit the gym, I’ma be aight. Right now I’m in dad mode; you’re gonna have to give me a couple months."

Rocky's new goal doesn't come completely out of the blue: the musician has gradually segued into the acting game over the past few years, appearing in a peripheral role in movies Dope, Monster, and If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. He's also about to star in the new Spike Lee-directed thriller Highest 2 Lowest. Referencing the film, he described being on his "Black Tom Cruise shit" while filming.

Previous actors to play the legendary role include Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, and Sean Connery. Of the twenty-five Bond movies made since the first one premiered in 1962, none of the actors to take on the role have been Black, causing mass debate in the film and pop culture sphere over the past few years. Some suggested that the lack of a Black Bond makes the franchise exclusionary and outdated, while others (particularly the right-wing media) claim a Black Bond would be an inaccurate portrayal of the books the films are based on.

As far as we see it, Rocky has more than enough swag to emulate the likes of Brosnan and Connery. He could also make a sick song for the soundtrack.
