UGG takes it to the extreme in Iceland

No matter where in the world we find ourselves, we all have a connection to UGG. Whether you begged your parents to get your first pair for Christmas circa 2012, or you judged your friends for having fUGG boots (fake UGG boots, duh), we’ve grown-up with the shoe brand, as we’ve seen it go from indoor snuggly slippers to a Bella Hadid-approved street style grail.

We all associate UGG with comfort, and over its forty-five-year history, this aspect has never been compromised. And while a pair of UGGs will always keep your feet cosy, the brand actually wants something a little different this year: it wants to take you out of your comfort zone.

Culted took part in this UGGextreme™ journey, which took us all the way to the snowy mountainscapes of Iceland. Welcomed by sub-zero temperatures and a sun that had just risen by 11 a.m., the extreme weather conditions found in the northernmost of the Nordic countries would become the perfect setting for natural explorations and late-night Northern Lights expeditions, all accompanied by the warmth of UGG.

We replaced daily sardine-packed tube commutes with snow tire-clad 4x4s, navigating snow-covered Iceland and swapping the cobbles of the UK capital for the serenity of the Scandinavian countryside. Stepping out of your radiator-heated vehicle and into the frosty outdoors is always an anxiously anticipated moment, but that fear quickly fades away when kitted out in the UGG Shasta Down Jacket.

The Shasta Down Jacket is a serious heavy-weight competitor in the winter jackets category, designed with warmth and practicality in mind, without compromising style. Arriving in the signature UGG brown colourway, the jacket features certified RDS down, meaning it keeps you warm and protects animal rights, made to withstand temperatures as low as -23ºC.

But that’s not all. Forget the hand warmers because this jacket also boasts polar fleece pockets, as well as luxurious shearling lining on its interior. On top of all of that, the Shasta Down Jacket is created with water-resistant nylon, so snow angels are definitely on the table this season.

It goes without saying that Iceland is a pretty incredible place to be – having a full UGG fit is the cherry on top. London to Reykjavik is only a short plane ride away, but its imposing scenery is enough to make you feel like you’ve entered a real-life winter wonderland. Iceland’s natural terrain, culture, and way of living is entirely different from what London can offer, from its breathtaking lagoons to its folklore troll stories we were made privy to.

When facing an imposing 2,000-year-old glacier, where smoking in front of it almost feels disrespectful, the last thing you want on your mind is the soggy feeling of cold and wet feet. The Shasta Tall Boot allows you to take in all the views without a worry in the world, thanks to its waterproof leather and GORE-TEX® internal layer to keep your feet dry, and its interior filled with UGGPlush™ blend for warmth and an unparalleled comfort that makes you forget you’re even wearing heavy-duty boots.

The Shasta Tall Boot also boasts of recycled polyester featherless down for its canvas collar and renewably sourced sugarcane for its midsole, as well as being finished off with a Vibram® ICETREK outsole. Each of UGGextreme™’s footwear pieces – the Adirondack Meridian Boot, Adirondack Meridian Hiker Boot, and Shasta Boot Mid – features similar technology, serving options fit for mountain hikes to stomping your way through the city’s streets.

Most of us connect UGG with its slipper-style shoes worn on easy-going days, but the brand has evolved far and beyond its ‘70s origins. Initially, UGG was created for surfers, after an Australian bloke wanted a taste of the budding culture of California but found that, unlike his Australian counterparts, Americans wouldn’t cover their feet up with sheepskin footwear after a long day of surfing.

From California to Iceland, UGG is providing solutions for all over the world and all types of environments. It also reaches far beyond comfortable footwear, with an impressive range of lifestyle pieces, again, made for all kinds of climates. From Geysir watching to hanging about your own sanctuary, one thing remains at the core of UGG’s varied offering: its undeniable comfort. After all, it’s no coincidence that UGG rhymes with snug.

Head over to UGG’s website to discover the full UGGextreme™ collection.
