When travelling, the savvy choose Gucci – and Gucci have chosen the Savoy, with the hotel showcasing the brand’s unique collection of luggage. If there’s any travel in your future, Gucci’s and the Savoy hotel have got you. The long-time collaborating duo have come together once again to bring you even more Gucci greatness with the Savoy playing host to a collection of Gucci’s travel accessories.
Travel and exquisite luggage played a major part in Gucci’s origin story.
Guccio Gucci journeyed to London in the late 19th century, taking a job at the Savoy as a porter. It was within this luxury hotel and London landmark that Gucci learned the meaning of high-end hotel living, igniting his sense of true discovery and the opportunity for a dialogue between design and the well-traveled.
Gucci’s role offered him the chance to understand those he assisted in the hotel. Inspired by the hotel’s glamorous guests and their fantastic array of traveling accessories, Gucci made his return to Florence and founded his artisanal luggage atelier in 1921. Gucci understood the world of travel and could more than comfortably gauge a traveler’s needs. The world was changing, and thanks to the genius of Guccio Gucci, so was its luggage.
Now, the Gucci Valigeria boutique at the Savoy will showcase a collection of Gucci’s travel items, from their trunks to trolleys, duffel bags to garment bags, and, of course, suitcases. The pieces featured are an expression of the rich heritage and enduring relationship between the Savoy and Gucci. Gucci Valigeria (Italian for luggage, by the way) are garment carriers like no other, with their recent collaboration a collection and campaign featuring Ryan Gosling, who in the billboards and double page spreads looked to be struggling to emerge from the ocean, but he certainly wasn’t struggling with style as he pushed his porter’s trolley full of the exquisite luggage, clearly a nod to Guccio Gucci’s role as a young man from Florence.
When it comes to leaving the comforts of home, Gucci has got you. With the collaborative space also displaying an array of the brand’s lifestyle line including stationary, travel sets, even skateboards and of course the essential, pet accessories.
The powerhouse duo has been dedicated to their partnership, with Gucci previously reconsidering and transforming the Savoy’s Royal Suite. The re-imagination oversaw the installation of opulent furniture, decorative objects and furnishings all from Gucci’s Decor collection following the brand’s centennial in 2021. The result is a stunning space, richly luxuriating in its heritage and the glamour of travel.
The collaborative event brings its guests the opportunity to explore an experience of haute couture in the truest sense of the term. Allowing a greater understanding of the brand’s roots in travel and their connection with the hotel. The Gucci Valigeria boutique is more than an opportunity to spend, it is an immersive space that summons up all the intoxicating appeal of a voyage into new lands, where past or future, there is always a place for timeless elegance. Guccio Gucci will have understood that travel starts with imagination and flair and this collaboration will allow for the sophisticated to pack everything that is good into life.
You can find the Gucci Valigeria at The Savoy Hotel, London. The space is open on Monday to Saturday from 10am until 7pm, and on Sundays: 12pm until 6pm.
